On Vampire Physiology

Postby Nikki » Sun Oct 09, 2011 1:15 pm

I just wanted to make a note about vampire physiology and fully explain where the staff stand on this topic, especially considering the new 20th edition revisions.

“Over time, most of the vampire’s bodily fluids will be replaced by blood — the Kindred sweats a thin sheen of blood when nervous, cries tears of blood when sad, and makes a god-awful mess during sex.”
- Read the wiki for more.

After the first few nights after the embrace, the vampire's body ejects all forms of bodily fluid other than the blood. Just as when a person dies, there is a god awful mess. This is the last time the vampire with excrete anything other than blood.
  • Their bowels no longer function.
  • Their sex organs no longer function.
  • Their lungs no longer absorb oxygen into the blood stream. *
  • Their heart no longer beats. **

* Even though they no longer breathe passively, they can consciously draw in air past their vocal chords to speak, or suck in a breath of a cigarette. To do this passively for any great length of time requires points in the Hobby/Talent 'Masquerade' (a secondary to Subterfuge).

** Because the heart no longer beats, blood does not pump around the body. In order to activate organs or send blood around the body, the vampire has to WILL IT TO HAPPEN. If the Vampire's humanity is below 8, then for every point of humanity below 8 that they are, they need to spend a blood point as well (Humanity 7 = 1bp, Humanity 6 = 2bp..and so on).

Things a Vampire must will to happen:
  • Breathing passively for extended periods of time (Requires a Manip+Masquerade roll).
  • Blood flow to muscles (This is how you're raising your physical attributes and costs 1bp per point raised - generation limits apply).
  • Blood flow to Organs (Requires 8-humanity x bp to activate fully. This is extended).
  • Blood flow AT ALL (This includes blood flow through veins/arteries/blood vessels and is the reason why Vampires do not bleed out (to death) like mortals do. THE ONLY bleeding that should be played is the initial squirt of blood from opening a wound, then no more.

Things that can happen unconsciously:
  • Sweating a single drop of blood sweat <-- This should only ever happen under extreme times of stress. The vampire should never be reduced to dripping sweat. For minor stresses, the vampire should have enough combined self control, subterfuge and manipulation to avoid giving himself away.
  • Tears of blood <-- Like above, this should be rare, under extreme circumstances or extreme loss, and should be a few tears at most.
  • A flush to the skin <-- During humiliation (and by humiliation I mean the kind that your character is rolling self control (diff 8) to overcome, then flushing is plausible. Fear, stress and shock do not cause flushing (even for mortals), but would more likely cause a person to pale, so please do not apply the flush every time your character feels anything. It should be an extreme feeling that overcomes them. Vampires can will themselves to flush, using the same rules as already describe earlier.

And in keeping with the new post on cybering, even if you FADE TO BLACK, you need to spend blood as detailed above. The cliff notes version is:

To get a hard on - 8- your humanity score= how many blood points MUST be spent

IE: 8 - humanity 6= 2 = 2 blood points must be spent to get it up.

Same for women, to allow said "up" to get in where it wants to go.

To be blunt- this is how women get wet. Blood. So you have blood between your legs whenever you wish to engage in any kind of sex, otherwise, you are not wet. Period. No pun intended >.>

It is messy. Your innards are coated with blood and the stuff coming out of the guy or girl isn't..well..what it -normally- would be, it's blood. So all and all, it's kinda gross and a waste of blood too because sex in no way feels anyway as good as feeding and biting does. So, you either waste blood to simulate something or you go feed or feed on your lover, which makes a new set of concerns..but yeah, it way better.

PS: This goes for fellatio too. In keeping with the bluntness.

Firstly:
As per: http://www.sanguinus.org/ourrules/kindred

We here at Sanguinus do not condone the graphic depiction of sexual acts between characters. Our policy is simple - should you character engage in those acts, you must "Fade to Black."

Sextly:
However, as it does and can come up, in order to properly demonstrate consent between all parties involved, the following things need to be recorded and then reported when a Fade to Black scene occurs:

  • All parties need to post something akin to ::FADE TO BLACK:: in the channel. This is to show agreement between all parties involved.
  • All parties need to spend the applicable blood to make the systems work. This is 8 - HUMANITY, the difference is then spent in blood. In example, Brujah Jim is Humanity 5, it'll cost him 3 blood points to get it working. Gangrel Jill is Humanity 8, it doesn't cost her anything. Caitiff Jesus is Humanity 10, he doesn't get blood back, but it doesn't cost him anything.
  • All parties need to report the new blood bonds unless they are already three-step bonded. In example, Gangrel Jill goes down on Brujah Jim, she's now bonded to him as all fluids that a Kindred generates is vitae.

Bumping. Read and heed...

You are a monster. You are vampire. Love is something you do not feel. You might remember feeling it, and want to recapture it... but you can't, it stays just outside your grasp.(Lust... well lust is a different story...) Sex is something you do not need to have. It doesn't even feel good anymore to your shriveled up genitalia. If anything, sex is used as a tool to use to get leverage on someone else... like Harvey Weinstein does. And you must spend blood as noted above.

On top of that... young kindred are just trying to cleave to being human but after the first couple times trying to have sex you're really not likely to want to be doing it much. You want intimacy and a touchstone to your humanity, not sex. And if you're older...it's all about alliances and power and, again, touchstone for humanity if you're still trying to keep to it. But mainly alliances and power and companionship. Not sex, which feels gross. It's like sex when you're both on your period but neither of you get to have orgasms and instead just feel gross and messy.

And it has potential to stir the beast, with all that vitae involved. Don't forget that.
